Types of Interpretation
Simultaneous Interpretating
For meetings and conferences where you have participants of different nationalities, you’ll usually want professional conference interpreters in soundproofed booths working in simultaneous mode. This allows everyone to understand proceedings in real-time through headphones. Simultaneous interpreting is high speed and requires teams of interpreters for seamless delivery.
Consecutive Interpreting
In more intimate settings, such as 1-2-1 meetings, consecutive interpreting is the right choice for your event. The interpreter listens to the speaker and takes notes before providing interpretation into the target language.
On-site Interpreting
Not all meetings take place in a conference room or around a table and a different style of interpreting might suit you best.
- Bidule: similar to simultaneous interpreting but without the equipment, this is perfect for factory visits and other ‘on-the-go’ meetings.
- Whispering (chuchotage): when only a few participants need interpreting and booths aren’t an option (for example, at a gala dinner), the interpreter works close to the speakers.
- Liaison interpreting: similar to consecutive interpreting but without the note-taking, liaison interpreting is used during visits, tours and in other contexts where a technical setup or note-taking are not possible.
- Community Interpreting: in hospitals, in court, for the law and customs agencies.
