Interpreter in Paris

I am a professional conference interpreter based in Paris, the city my mother left 50 years ago when she got married. 

I grew up 1600km away in western Spain, close to the Portuguese border, speaking French, Galician, Spanish and Portuguese. But although language and communication have always been part of who I am, I didn’t initially think about them as a career. 

I was first drawn to more physical professions. I trained at the Conservatory of Music and Dance in Spain, played volleyball professionally and worked as a dancer for 7 years before graduating in Translation, Interpreting and Translation Studies from the University of Vigo.

After several years working in the UK, I relocated again and began my current work as an interpreter in Paris. Here I have been interpreting, translating and teaching for the last 20 years, as well as exploring my passions for writing, learning new languages and volunteering.

Always an amateur techie, in recent years I have been studying the potential effects of new technologies on the practice of interpreting and the health of interpreters. I take an active role in research and training for the professional interpreting and translation associations I belong to, particularly in the field of AI. I also continue to deepen my understanding of technology by studying at the École nationale supérieure des Mines in Paris.
